Credit Transfer

CAS - Course Applicability System
To see how credits transfer to St. Cloud Technical College or from SCTC to another college log into the CAS website.

MnTransfer Approved Courses offered by St. Cloud Technical College.

Credits are evaluated for transfer at the time a student is admitted to a program at St. Cloud Technical College. Official transcripts received from other institutions are automatically evaluated. Students can receive a tentative evaluation by using the CAS website.

Copies of accepted transfer courses are sent to the student and their advisor.  Credits are then posted on the student’s record and the original transfer evaluation and transcript are placed in the permanent student file. Students may view their academic record by logging into the online registration system, clicking on the Student Tab and then choosing Academic Record from the menu options on the left side of the screen.

Transfer evaluations for students participating in the Anoka Ramsey AA program are completed at Anoka Ramsey Community College and do not appear on the SCTC transcript.

Transfer credits will compute into a student's "total credits earned" but do not calculate into GPA.  Detail of courses accepted in transfer will not appear on the SCTC student transcript. The transcript will only indicate the transferring institution and the number of credits accepted.

Credit Transfer Policy

Accreditation:
SCTC will consider for transfer those courses taken from colleges and universities that are accredited by regional accrediting agencies.

Age of Credits:
Transfer of technical courses shall be allowed for credit courses that have been completed within the last 5 years (may be extended if an academic award was received and the student is working in the field). Specific or required math and science courses have a 10-year age limit. General studies and general education courses in the liberal arts have no age limit.

Course Content:
Courses approved for transfer must match at least 75% of the content and goals of the course syllabus for which the student is seeking transfer. Content and goals from several courses can be combined to reach the 75% match.

Grade Point Average:
Grades earned at other institutions shall not be used in computing the GPA at St. Cloud Technical College .

Grade Requirements:
Courses for which students receive a grade of “C” or higher shall be considered for transfer. Students who have maintained a cumulative 2.0 GPA at another institution and wish to appeal the transfer of credits must submit an academic appeals form, available in the Office of Records and Registration, to the Business Office. See the Academic Appeal Policy for additional information.

Number of Credits:
The number of credits granted shall not exceed the number of credits awarded by the sending institution.

Semester Conversion:
The following formula is used to calculate the conversion: 3 quarter hours become 2 semester hours and 4 quarter hours become 2.67 semester hours (4 x .667=2.668).

Residency Requirements:
Diploma students must earn 1/3 of the technical/program credits at St. Cloud Technical College . AAS students must earn a minimum of 20 technical/program credits at St. Cloud Technical College .
