Patrick McGuire, Cardiovascular Tech Instructor Patrick has thirty five years of experience in various aspects of healthcare, beginning in 1972 as a nursing home orderly and in respiratory therapy while attending school. After graduating from the Practical Nursing Program at St. Cloud Technical College he worked as an LPN on a Medical-Surgical floor. Enlisting in the U. S. Navy in 1975 he attended Basic Hospital Corpsman School, and worked as a Hospital Corpsman on infectious disease/internal medicine floor.

After graduating as a Cardiopulmonary Technologist from Naval School of Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD in 1978, Patrick worked in all disciplines in the Cardiac Cath Lab in addition to Echocardiography, Pulmonary Function, and Respiratory Therapy. This led him to an instructor position at the Cardiopulmonary Technology Program at Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego, 1981-1986.

While stationed in San Diego, Patrick completed his Associate of Arts in 1985 and Bachelor of Technical Education in 1986. After transferring to Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA, he assumed the Lead Technologist position in the Cardiac Cath Lab. He ended his active duty time in the U. S. Navy in December, 1987 and returned to Minnesota. He continued in the U. S. Naval Reserves until retiring as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman in 1997.

Patricks first job at St. Cloud Hospital was in Echocardiography, but soon he became the Lead Cardiovascular Technologist in the Operating Room, responsible for setting up a CVT department, and assisting in the start-up of the Open Heart Surgery Program. While continuing in this capacity, he was also fortunate to work in Cardiac Cath Lab.

St. Cloud Technical College (SCTC) began the Echocardiography Program in 1999, Patrick was asked to assist in the start-up of the program. Continuing to work at St. Cloud Hospital, he again assisted SCTC with the start-up of another program, Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 2001. Later that year he was hired full time at SCTC, tasked with the creation of a Cardiovascular Technology Program, which began Fall Semester 2002, graduating the first class May 2004. SCTC achieved Accreditation for both Cardiovascular Technology and Echocardiography in 2006.

Patrick continues his professional growth during this time, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 2003 and being granted Fellowship status in the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals in 2005.
