Popup Blocker Settings

Allow Pop-Ups from Trusted Sites
In most cases, you want to have your browser pop-up blocker active to avoid new windows lauching with advertising or unintended launches of adult websites.  However, a pop-up blocker will cause problems using other websites that you do trust (such as email sites, shopping sites, etc.).   You can add exceptions into your popup blocker.

D2L uses some pop-up windows.  You can change your browser settings so that you do not have to click "allow" each time you use D2L.

Set "Popup Blocker > Allowed Sites" to include:
*.mnscu.edu
*.sctc.edu
d2l.custhelp.com

Internet Explorer, choose
TOOLS > POPUP BLOCKER > POPUP BLOCKER SETTINGS
and then enter each address above separately (enter the site, then press ADD, then repeat for other sites).

Netscape Navigator, choose
TOOLS > OPTIONS > CONTENT and checkmark the option [X] Block Pop-Up Windows, and then press the associated EXCEPTIONS button to include the addresses above.

Other Things Which Can Interfere with D2L

  • Third-party Toolbars (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) and Third-Party Popup Blockers (McAfee, Symantec)
    Disable or remove these
  • Security Settings too Strict
Set browser security settings to "Medium" or lower.
In Internet Explorer, you can add your D2L website as a "trusted site" in the menu path
Tools >> Internet Options >> Security [tab] >> Trusted Sites  >> Sites
    and Add the site https://sctc.ims.mnscu.edu
    Internet Explorer Trusted Sites
  • Caching of Old Pages
Normally pages and images are saved to temporary space on your hard drive to save time if you visit the same page again.  This will cause problems in D2L since the pages update frequently.
In Internet Explorer you can change when pages are cached.  Change your settings in the menu path
Tools >> Internet Options >> General [tab] >> Browsing History >> Settings  >> Temporary Internet Files >> Every Time I Visit the Webpage
    Internet Explorer Browsing History
  • Getting Rid of the Message "Page Contains Both Secure and Insecure Items"
When you are working in a website which requires a login, and that web page is displaying content from yet another webpage (3rd party webpage), you may get a warning message that the page contains both secure and insecure content.  If you wish to stop this notification in Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can go into Tools >> Internet Options >> Security [tab] and click on the button for Custom Level...  In the dialog that opens, search for the setting for Display Mixed Content and set it to Enable.  Then click OK and OK to confirm the settings. Click the image for a full-sized view fo the graphic.
